Hi all! I am having an insanely busy month and have barely had time to read anything, I’m real sad about it. As a result, I haven’t posted any reviews this week which is quite unlike me. However, I’ve had this tag sitting in my drafts for a while and as we’re halfway through the Hogwarts House Battle, I thought now would be a great time to do the First Year Hogwarts tag!
Without further ado, here are the questions!
After receiving your Hogwarts letter, you and your family hastily head down to Diagon Alley. Which shop is the first to grab your attention?
Oh, definitely Flourish & Blotts! For obvious reasons – BOOKS! But second stop would be Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour to make the most of that last bit of summer sunshine.
After rereading your letter you see that you may bring a cat, owl or toad with you to school. Which, if any, do you bring and what do you name them?
Despite my blog name, I think I’m going to go with cat. You can hardly snuggle up in bed with a book and an owl, can you? I’d want a black cat, and if it was female, I’d name her Nyx, after the Greek goddess of night. If it was male, he’d be called Khoshekh, like the mysterious floating cat in Welcome to Night Vale.
You arrive at Kings Cross station knowing absolutely no one! Once you board the Hogwarts Express, you’re faced with three options of where to sit. Where do you sit?
a) in a compartment by yourself (and double check you have everything)
b) in a compartment that contains four or five other young wizards who appear to be trading cards
c) in a compartment right down the end where another lone wizard/witch sits?
I’m definitely not confident to just swan into a full carriage like, “Hello, yes, I’ve Arrived™.” I’d probably try sit in a carriage with a person that looks vaguely friendly.
You arrive at Hogwarts and are sorted into your house! Which one are you in?
I think the Sorting Hat would deliberate between Ravenclaw and Slytherin, but ultimately decide on Slytherin.
You are given your timetable which contains the following classes: Transfiguration, Charms, Potions, History of Magic, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Astronomy, Herbology, and Flying. Which one are you most looking forward to? Oh BOY, this is hard! I’m torn between Potions, History of Magic, Astronomy and Herbology. If I was going in blind, not knowing anything about the professors who teach those subjects, I think I’d be most excited for Potions. It’s like cooking, basically!
Your first weekend at Hogwarts is here! How are you spending the weekend?
a) studying ahead in the library, because you can never study enough
b) exploring the castle and grounds with your new friends
c) chilling in the common room playing chess with your new friends
d) finding a cosy spot somewhere in the castle, reading a book and eating snacks
As it’s the first weekend, I’m definitely out exploring with new friends. As weekends go on, I’d probably knuckle down in the library a bit more and spend some quiet weekends with a book, but it’s always exciting to get out and about in those first few weeks.
A few weeks of class has now passed. Which class has become your best and worst?
I’m not great at anything physical so I imagine flying is my worst class. I think I’d be pretty good at Astronomy!
The first Quidditch game is this Saturday between your house and their number one rival, but you also have a Potions test on Monday! What do you do?
a) go to the game, obviously, who cares about Potions?!
b) go to the game but then make up the time studying later in the day
c) don’t go, studying is way more important
I’d definitely go to the game but feel bad about it THE WHOLE TIME and then cram for the exam all day Sunday.
Christmas is here! Do you go home to your family or stay at Hogwarts to be with your friends who are also staying?
Go home, 100%. Depending on how close I was with the friends that were staying, I’d invite them to come home with me.
Christmas is over but now it’s time for exams! What becomes your go to study spot?
a) on your bed in your dorm, best to be cosy
b) in your house common room
c) in the library, obviously!
d) in an empty classroom, as you prefer to be alone?
The library, for sure. I need that academic ambience to get me in the right mindset for studying!
What would your first year at Hogwarts look like?
Have you done the First Year Hogwarts tag?
