I started last month’s round-up post with ‘I’m over my reading slump!’ and I’m gonna go ahead and retract that. I’m not really reading right now, and I guess I’m sort of on a semi-unofficial-hiatus from blogging too. I’m just taking some time to do some other things. I wanted to at least do my monthly round-up post though, since I do actually have some things to share. For now, I’m just going to be posting when I have something to post about, rather than trying to stick to any kind of schedule. Here’s what I read in July (though very firmly in the first half, I don’t think I’ve picked up a book since 21 July…)
What I Read
- Black Chalk by Christopher J. Yates (Review) – 1 star
- The Majesties by Tiffany Tsao (Review) – 2 stars
I forgot how low I rated both of my July reads, maybe this is why I’ve had no motivation to pick anything else up… To be clear, The Majesties wasn’t bad at all, it was just very much OK. It was an ARC so I feel bad about not reviewing it but I truly have nothing interesting to say, so… (edit: I did review this in the end.)
I actually started The Little Friend by Donna Tartt, though like I said earlier, I haven’t picked it up in a couple of weeks. I also began listening to A River in Darkness: One Man’s Escape from North Korea by Masaji Ishikawa on audiobook last night. I’m thinking that audio might be a better way for me to start getting some reading in for the time being.
Missed some posts?
- Here’s my optimistic June round-up.
- I also did the obligatory Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag.
- I finished the K-Pop Readathon and actually completed all the prompts! Here’s my wrap-up post.
- I posted my sixth Friday’s Further Reading post.
Not a lot to recap this month!
Here are some other things I’ve been enjoying this month.
On the small screen
I’m definitely not slacking with my TV watching like I am my reading. I devoured season three of Good Girls as soon as it came out (Manny Montana really out here looking that good with a voice like that too…) and I’ve started binging The Umbrella Academy, which I don’t know if I’m enjoying as much as the first season but I’m only a few episodes in. I’ve been slowly watching The King: Eternal Monarch which is amazing, if a little confusing. I’m so impressed with Woo Do-hwan’s acting and I’m planning on watching his other shows once I’m done!
I can’t stop listening to Jackson Wang right now. Particularly his new single 100 Ways – the above isn’t the official video but I love it – though I’ve got his whole Mirrors album on repeat and probably will have for a while. I’m also enjoying a few tracks from Bea Miller and Tate McRae whilst
patiently waiting for BTS’s comeback on 21 August.
What else have I been upto?
I’ve been having lots of video calls with my friends, but I also managed to get out to a few London parks when the weather was nice for some socially distanced picnics. I still haven’t managed to go home to visit my parents (this is now officially the longest I’ve ever not seen them for, even longer than when I lived in Sweden!) but I’m going to visit during the bank holiday weekend and I can’t wait.
I hope you’re all staying safe and well!
