Noura (@theperksofbeingnoura) recently launched this K-Pop themed readathon and since I’ve recently gotten into BTS I thought it would be fun to take part and maybe even expand my K-Pop horizons a bit?
This readathon runs from 15 June to 15 July and you can follow along on Twitter by using the hashtag #kpopreadathon and tagging Noura @NunuKz. It is split into several ‘teams’, each corresponding to a different K-Pop group and featuring prompts inspired by their songs. You can find all of the teams and their prompts in this Twitter thread or in this Google doc. This also seemed like a really good way for me to check out some more K-Pop groups, so, I, er… made a Spotify playlist with all the songs mentioned in the readathon… sorry for being extra, but here it is:
I’ve (naturally) chosen BTS as my team, and for them there are six prompts to complete. If I finish those, I might move on to BLACKPINK as I do listen to them a bit, but maybe I’ll try a completely different group instead. Honestly, the way I’m reading at the moment, I’ll be lucky if I manage six so for now, here’s what I’m planning to read for each of the BTS prompts:
Boy With Luv: Contemporary
I’ve been seeing a few people rave about Jo Baker’s The Body Lies recently and since I’ve had it for a while, maybe it’s time I read it.
Dionysus: Greek mythology
I think now is a great time to escape into some mythological fantasy, so I’m finally going to read Madeleine Miller’s Circe. This is one of the oldest books on my TBR too, so a good excuse to tick it off.
Black Swan: Favourite genre
One of my favourite genres is dark academia, so I think I’ll pick Black Chalk by Christopher J. Yates. I don’t know if it will measure up to my other favourites of the genre but we’ll see.
Persona: Own voices
For this one I’m reading English Animals by Laura Kaye, which features a lesbian main character. Merry reviewed this a while back which put it on my radar.
Friends: Buddy read
When I saw this prompt I was kind of disappointed because I never have anyone to buddy read with. I was telling my bestie (who got me into BTS in the first place) about the readathon, and they suggested we buddy read a book they bought recently on my recommendation, so for this prompt I’m reading: If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio. I’ve read it somewhat recently but I can’t wait to get re-read it alongside my friend, who I think is going to love it (no pressure, G).
Zero O’Clock: Start reading at 00:00
This is a nice easy one, as I can pick whatever book I want and as long as I start it at midnight. I may change my mind, but for now I’m going for The Majesties by Tiffany Tsao as it’s an ARC I want to read before July.
That’s it for the BTS prompts! Like I said, I might also do BLACKPINK if I finish these, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I recently got into a big post-Magical Readathon slump during May and thankfully, I’m sort of on the up, and I’m hoping another readathon will help. Like a double negative, you know. There’s some sort of logic in there somewhere. Or at least nearby.
Are you taking part in any summer readathons?
