We’re halfway through December – yikes! – so the third chapter of Magical Readathon: Winter Edition is open. I got two prompts last week and haven’t completed prompt one yet, but as I said in at Part I, I’m going to read at my own pace and I’ll just finish when I finish 🤷 Let’s see what prompts I get this week!
In the previous chapter, I caught the Hogwarts Express and joined Hermione’s book club, contrary to the storyline in book where Harry and Ron fly to Hogwarts and crash into the Whomping Willow! Chapter 3 opens with breakfast on the first day of classes, and I have to decide what to eat! I pick toast, eggs, sausages and bacon, over the other options of porridge, cornflakes, or cake (though the latter is tempting!) The first couple of weeks of classes pass without incident, until a busy day sees you invited to Nearly Headless Nick’s Deathday party, Wood demands extra quidditch practice, and a notice for the new duelling club is posted. You have to choose which you want to spend your evening doing. I decide to go to duelling club, which gives me my first prompt: read a book with a pink or purple cover! I don’t actually have one on my TBR, but I do have one with predominently purple text on the cover, so I’m going with We Were Feminists Once by Andi Zeisler.
At duelling club, you’re dragged onto the platform to face Malfoy and have to quickly think of which spell to use: Expelliarmus, Protego, or Rictusempra. I go with Harry’s spell of choice, expelliarmus. The spell yanks Malfoy’s wand out of his hand, and the duel is over. After duelling club, you head to the library with Hermione and Ron to work on a History of Magic essay before heading get some dinner. As I didn’t get detention in the previous chapter, the walk to the Great Hall is interrupted by strange voices that sound like they’re coming from inside the walls. Rounding a corner, you see a petrified Mrs Norris, and a terrible threat painted on the wall in blood: The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir beware.
That’s it for Chapter 3! I only got one prompt so that gives me some time to catch up with last week’s reading.
