Book Review: The Dreamers by Karen Thompson-Walker

When college students in the small, quiet Californian town suddenly begin falling asleep and inexplicably not waking up, the lives of several town residents begin to collide and panic takes hold across the nation.

Excuse the pun, but this was so dreamy! Every time I picked this up I felt like I was in a different world, the real world just melted away. I loved the writing style and how all the different characters’ stories interconnected. The story was carefully paced and the conclusion was satisfying. It reminded me a lot of Jose Saramango’s Blindness, which the book actually quotes in it’s opening, so if you enjoyed Blindness, I would highly recommend The Dreamers. It’s a perfectly melancholic read for a lazy weekend.

Rating: 4 / 5 stars

The Dreamers will be released on February 7th.
