Top 5 Wednesday: 2019 Favourites

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly blog series hosted on Goodreads by Sam @ ThoughtsOnTomes. The series is currently on hiatus so no new prompts are being produced, but it’s a perfect opportunity to work through some old prompts I missed!

This week I’m looking back at my favourites reads of the year so far.

Borne by Jeff Vandermeer

Maybe my favourite fiction read of the year! I fell in love with Borne and this story. Jeff Vandermeer’s writing always completely hooks me. I have a novella of his set in the same world as Borne on my TBR for next month and I can’t wait to revisit!

Vagina: A Re-Education

This is definitely my favourite non-fiction book so far. I think everyone that has a vagina should read it, and more. It’s so educational, I can’t recommend it enough!

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This was a four-star read from me but still a favourite. It was captivating and I can’t wait for the adaptation.

New American Best Friend by Olivia Gatwood

Definitely my favourite poetry collection from this year, though admittedly I haven’t read a lot of poetry so far. Still, this is a beautiful collection that I really connected to and I can’t wait for more from Olivia Gatwood.

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman

This is most certainly a nostalgia pick. I loved returning to Lyra’s world but with a host of new characters. I’m very excited for the next instalment of The Book of Dust.
